New to the fair – this Saturday!

The kingly Steve Tillotson brings us Banal Pig’s Royal Assortment in time for Saturday’s fair!

“Ding Ding! Here’s the cover to my new comic, the 18th banal pig publication, created especially for the 5th Leeds Alternative Comics Fair next weekend (or specifically, the top half of the front cover of the comic- there’s a comic on the bottom half). The comic is 8 big, full colour pages and was originally planned just to be a vehicle for my I, Yeti story, but I have expanded it to include a previously unseen story called Vampire Weekend and two full page strips that are slightly tweaked versions of comics that have been printed in other anthologies. It will be a limited edition so if they all sell at LACF5, that’ll be it. Get in touch though if you can’t make it and you’d like one reserving.”

Friend of LACF, Gareth Brookes, will be selling Christmas editions of Man Man. Here he is, demonstrating a copy:

Isn’t he sweet? Come and give him a hug on Saturday.

And the incomparable Andy Sykes presents his new Hexjibber Anti-Revision Book! I have beheld it. It is very, very good.

“The Hexjibber Anti Revision Book is for people who want to creatively procrastinate, slack off in style and waste time productively. It’s guaranteed to be 100% free of educational value! All the activities inside are based on the most common subjects you would study at School, College or University.

No matter what kind of work you are avoiding, this book has an activity for you! They range from colouring in, drawing challenges, quizzes and puzzles! Pick from English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Art, Design, P.E., Business Studies, Life Skills and many more. So, open the book up and get ready to wrong your brain up, with some Anti Revision!”

I can highly recommend anything from these boys. Please come along and have a look. Maybe even pick up a copy for that unique Christmas present! Ideal for anyone who likes a laff.

It’s gonna be another fun event. And some of us are sacrificing valuable Chrimbo shopping time! So make it worth our while by saying hello! Plus I will be waggling my camera around and hopefully putting together a little documentary of the day!

– Hugh

For our 20th Exhibitor Profile, we’re delighted to welcome newbie Richard Smith into the LACF fold:

Who? Richard Smith

What? I done a comics.

Where? In the hearts and minds of the American people.

When? Always.

Why? I ASK YOU SIR WHY NOT?

How? In a secret location known only to the most learned of scholars, high above civilisation, lives an ancient all-knowing guru. Only he can truly teach you how. Also you need a pencil.

LACF5 Press Release

You’ve seen the posters, now here’s the blurb:

The Leeds Alternative Comics Fair returns for its fifth outing on Saturday 8th December, and this time it’s got a distinctly seasonal theme. We’re encouraging everyone to ditch the Christmas shopping and discover a haven of creativity and inspiration from some of the finest artists in the North (and beyond), and there will be plenty of unique and unusual comics, art and crafts that will make great gifts. Once again, it’ll take place at A Nation of Shopkeepers, a spacious bar that has proved to be the ideal venue with its great atmosphere, interesting food menu and well-stocked bar, and as usual we’ll be keeping it intimate in scale so that attendees can have a good look at everything on offer, and get to chat with the creators about their wares.

Exhibitors this time include ‘friends of LACF’ Gareth Brookes, James ‘Couk’ Downing, Kristyna Baczynski, Adam Cadwell, Andy ‘Hexjibber’ Sykes, plus organisers Steve Tillotson and Hugh Raine, and Sean Azzopardi will be exhibiting for the first time, along with more new faces to be announced soon.

It’s on from 12 noon until 5pm and as usual the event is completely free to enter, so come along, have a browse, a chat, a drink and a fish finger sarnie, and pick up some unique presents for your friends and family (and don’t forget to treat yourself of course!).

Please check out our twitter and facebook pages for even more info…

LACF 5 Details At Last!

Yes, yes, oyez, we’re back again. The 5th Leeds Alternative Comics Fair will take place on Saturday 8th December, again at our favourite venue A Nation Of Shopkeepers from 12pm til 5pm. This fair will be a special festive edition, a welcome respite from the drudgery of Christmas shopping, and an opportunity to pick up some unique and original gifts for your nearest and dearest – and don’t forget to treat yourself. Ha! Ha! Ahem…

Hopefully you’ll know the score by now; it’s free to enter, features loads of super-talented artists and comic creators from Leeds, the North and beyond, and it’s held in a fantastic pub with great food and a wide selection of drinks.

We’ll be having the usual mix of new exhibitors and veteran friends of LACF: full details of the exhibitors to follow soon (as usual, due to limited space we will be inviting exhibitors to take part).

So, get booking your trains, planes, taxis and yachts, and we’ll see you there!

More great stuff on Saturday…

LACF stalwart Gary Bainbridge has got a new comic out for Saturday: ‘Column is a teeny tiny A6 mini comic containing some of my drawings and ponderings on public sculpture. It’s got two different covers and the print run is minuscule, so get yours while they last’, and he’s also got some handsome totebags to carry all the comics you’ll be buying, plus the rest of his great comics, including the Sugar Glider series.
Oli East will be selling his unique series of books, along with some other Blank Slate titles, and he’ll also have a bargain box selling off some of his collection of comics to raise funds for his next project, a trip across France (or failing that, some beers and his bus fare home). And don’t forget about the other fine folks appearing, including John Allison, Dan Berry, James ‘Couk’ Downing (who’s tweets suggest he’s beavering away on something new), Karoline Rerrie, Adam Cadwell and The Pern who’ll all have fantastic things for sale which will definitely make your life immeasurably better.
