LACF5 Press Release

You’ve seen the posters, now here’s the blurb:

The Leeds Alternative Comics Fair returns for its fifth outing on Saturday 8th December, and this time it’s got a distinctly seasonal theme. We’re encouraging everyone to ditch the Christmas shopping and discover a haven of creativity and inspiration from some of the finest artists in the North (and beyond), and there will be plenty of unique and unusual comics, art and crafts that will make great gifts. Once again, it’ll take place at A Nation of Shopkeepers, a spacious bar that has proved to be the ideal venue with its great atmosphere, interesting food menu and well-stocked bar, and as usual we’ll be keeping it intimate in scale so that attendees can have a good look at everything on offer, and get to chat with the creators about their wares.

Exhibitors this time include ‘friends of LACF’ Gareth Brookes, James ‘Couk’ Downing, Kristyna Baczynski, Adam Cadwell, Andy ‘Hexjibber’ Sykes, plus organisers Steve Tillotson and Hugh Raine, and Sean Azzopardi will be exhibiting for the first time, along with more new faces to be announced soon.

It’s on from 12 noon until 5pm and as usual the event is completely free to enter, so come along, have a browse, a chat, a drink and a fish finger sarnie, and pick up some unique presents for your friends and family (and don’t forget to treat yourself of course!).

Please check out our twitter and facebook pages for even more info…

More great stuff on Saturday…

LACF stalwart Gary Bainbridge has got a new comic out for Saturday: ‘Column is a teeny tiny A6 mini comic containing some of my drawings and ponderings on public sculpture. It’s got two different covers and the print run is minuscule, so get yours while they last’, and he’s also got some handsome totebags to carry all the comics you’ll be buying, plus the rest of his great comics, including the Sugar Glider series.
Oli East will be selling his unique series of books, along with some other Blank Slate titles, and he’ll also have a bargain box selling off some of his collection of comics to raise funds for his next project, a trip across France (or failing that, some beers and his bus fare home). And don’t forget about the other fine folks appearing, including John Allison, Dan Berry, James ‘Couk’ Downing (who’s tweets suggest he’s beavering away on something new), Karoline Rerrie, Adam Cadwell and The Pern who’ll all have fantastic things for sale which will definitely make your life immeasurably better.

New to the Fair part 2

In addition to Hugh’s lovely looking haul, here’s a quick preview of more stuff premiering at LACF4:

Firstly, Kristyna Baczynski’s brand new comic Nine Lives is previewed above and described thus:

“Follow an unfortunate feline fellow as he counts down his generous quota of lives. A 10-page concertina mini comic, printed on 300gsm matte brown board. Cut and folded with love and papercuts. Book measures 10cm x 9cm when folded. Edition of 300 only”.

Andy Sykes has produced some exciting Hexjibber Hobbies greetings cards and post cards, as well as his excellent Hexjibber Hobbies book, pictured above.

And lastly for now, I (Steve Tillotson) will be selling my brand new, limited-edition comic Christopher Wren, a minicomic which unfolds like a map so the pages get bigger until the poster sized conclusion is revealed- with two different endings! I’ll also be selling posters, badges and a selection from the back catalogue of banal pig comics.

LACF3 press release!

The 3rd Leeds Alternative Comics Fair will take place on Saturday 1st October, in A Nation of Shopkeepers, Leeds, just behind the Leeds City Art Gallery.

In keeping with previous events, our small but perfectly formed event hopes to bring you some of the best Northern, alternative comics makers, print-makers and illustrators, who will be selling their wares in the quirky, relaxed bar on Cookridge Street.

Don’t like comics? There’ll be lots more on offer, such as craft wear, badges, art and music.

This event’s guest list includes old friends such as Steve Tillotson (Banal Pig), Hugh “Shug” Raine (REET! Comics), Gary Bainbridge, Andy Waugh, Gareth Brookes, Helen “Memo” Entwisle, Huw “Lem” Davies, Ben Clark, Kristyna Baczynski and Geof Banyard (Fetishman), who will be showcasing new work.

New exhibitors include James Downing (COUK), Jim Medway, Isaac Lenkiewicz, Kelly Walton, Bob Milner (Milk Two Sugars) and a cameo appearance from Darryl Cunningham, of Psychiatric Tales fame.

We are also reintroducing the communal table, giving non-exhibitors the chance to bring their comics along to sell. All we ask is that you help man the table for a short period of time.

The event will run from 12 noon until 5pm and is FREE to enter! So come along, have a browse, a chat, a drink and a fish finger sarnie!

List of Exhibitors at LACF3

We’ve pretty much confirmed the line up now for the 3rd Leeds Alternative Comics Fair, and again we want to feature artists and creators from the North and we’ve tried to bring together a broad range of people with a really interesting mix of comics and other products. Exhibiting this time are Friends of LACF:

Steve Tillotson (Banal Pig)

Hugh “Shug” Raine (Reet Comic)

Gary Bainbridge

Andy Waugh

Gareth Brookes

Helen “Memo” Entwisle

Huw “Lem” Davies

Ben Clark

Kristyna Baczynski

Geof Banyard (Fetishman)

And coming to the fair for the first time are:

James Downing (COUK)

Jim Medway

Isaac Lenkiewicz

Kelly Walton

Bob Milner (Milk Two Sugars)

We’re really happy to have these guys involved, they all make really fantastic comics and stuff,  and they will be a great addition to the fair. Also don’t forget, we will be having a big communal table this time, so please feel free to bring your own comics down (all we ask is that you’re willing to help out for a bit taking the money on the communal table if necessary). That’s more or less it, we’re waiting on a couple of confirmations and we will update this page when we get them.
